Nintendo Gamecube disc problems

Ok so when I start up my Gamecube with my Pokemon Colosseum disc in, it tells me “The Game Disc could not be read.” so I turn the console off, take the disc out and clean it, try again and I get the same. Trying another disc, it works fine.
Now the thing is, I decided to do a little experiment. I turned the ‘Cube on without a game disc in it so I was at like the menu screen thing where you set the time and stuff, and went to the Game Play section. I put the Pokémon disc in and it picks it up there, so I pressed start and went to play the game, but it again said it cannot be read.
What’s going on ? D:
The disc does have a few scratches but it was working perfectly fine the other week when I went to play it, and it hasn’t been out of the console since.
Oh, and please, before you tell me to go look in the instruction booklet or google it or whatever, I already have and found nothing. So you’d be wasting your time.

unfortunately it’s quite a common problem that I’ve also had. The laser that reads the disc comes out of alignment. Nintendo service centre fixed mine for free, out of warranty, a few years ago. whether they’ll still do it now the gamecube is old is a different matter.

Be pleasant and persistant on the phone to them, and it works.

There are various DIY guides for fixing the problem on the internet, but it’s quite complex.

If all else fails, gamestation are selling preowned gamecubes for £15 – bargain! or you could get a wii???
